Providing Integrated Rapid Product Development

Advanced Design & Manufacturing (ADM), a quick reaction division of the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) Engineering Directorate, provides customers with design and manufacturing services using state-of-the-art equipment and sound engineering principles. ADM maintains the latest technologies and qualified personnel to rapidly execute complex projects covering all aspects of interdisciplinary design and development. Fully integrated with extensive manufacturing capabilities, ADM provides rapid response Concept-to-Product total solutions.

ADM’s Concept-to-Product process allows efficient optimization of design, performance, manufacturability and cost. No longer are products developed in a step by step process. Now better products can be manufactured more quickly and inexpensively by concurrently using design, analysis and prototyping. ADM provides the tools and services needed to implement and optimize this process.

ADM acts as a service bureau to support product teams in the Armed Forces and with private industry, through Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADA). ADM is heavily relied upon and particularly active in times of international conflict, such as during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Customers are provided with engineering designs, drawings, functional prototypes and deployable items. The division supports military missions by developing products needed on short notice. Through CRADA’s, non-government partners can take advantage of this capability to develop complex items with very rapid cycle time. ADM specialists can predict product attributes and performance early in the development process and recommend the most appropriate design, integration, and production choices. After analyzing an existing model, engineers can proactively identify and correct problems. ADM also assists defense contractors with optimization of product designs and resolution of development and production issues.
