Wet Chemistry Laboratory
The
scientists and technicians at the Wet Chemistry Laboratory prepare samples
and provide in-house testing and analysis using optical-based biological
and chemical sensors. In general, samples can be optically characterized
based on the radiation they emit. Here at ECBC, we have developed an extensive
database that includes three-dimensional, excitation-emission spectra.
This database is used to develop laser-based point sensors to examine
contaminants in the laboratory and in the field.
Due to the unique layout of the laser/optical laboratory and the Wet Chemistry laboratory space, we can optically probe a variety of samples including Bio-safety Level 2 (BL2) organisms. Using the resulting spectral signatures we can identify naturally occurring substances and study man-made compounds in order to ascertain a composite's potential uses.
